History Calls
Through combination of legislative and executive power, Hitler's government suppressed political opposition. On 14 July, the Nazi Party was declared the only legal party in Germany. Labor unions were merged with employers' federations into an organization under Nazi control, and the traditional autonomy of German state governments was abolished.
Having secured supreme political power, Hitler went on to gain public support by convincing most Germans he was their savior from the economic Depression. The Nazis continued eliminated opposition through a process known as Gleichschaltung ("bringing into line").
